Greek Day at Val Vista Lakes Elementary

Katie just recently celebrated Greek Day in school. Her teacher assigned her (which means me) to bring Baklava. Before the assignment I had only heard of it. I had no idea what is was made out of it or how it looked. Thanks to an internet recipe and help from our pastry chef friend Jenica I made it. Katie said most of the people liked it but some kids spit it out. That's always nice to hear when you spend money on making a gourmet dessert for third graders. Oh well, it was fun for them to try and Katie had fun.

Here is Katie in the traditional Greek garb.

Kellen's Birthday and soccer game

This fall Kellen started again! Woo-hoo. He is having a lot of fun. His team is The Rattlers. He is always so happy when he makes a goal.

Something on his stomach must be super interesting because he stopped playing for a minute to check it out.

Kellen just recently turned 5 years old. I am not sure where the time went! He is such a good little guy. Kellen is really funny, he loves to quote movies and play with his sister.

This year we had a family party for cousins at Chuck E Cheese. It was a lot of fun to watch the boys run around earning tickets. That weekend we had another family party with grandma & grandpa Lyle and aunts and uncle Scott. Thanks everyone for celebrating Kellen's birthday!

This picture is so blurry but cool at the same time.

This was Kellen's birthday cake this year. It was the easiest cake I have ever made. It was fun to have something different.

The box was a real hit with Kellen.

Uncle Mark liked the box too!!

Katie's prayer

Lately Katie has been saying the sweetest little prayers. Every time she prays I have a smile on my face. Tonight she thanked Heavenly Father for all we have, the past and present, and her school friend Faith that is moving. She also prayed that Faith would be safe and that we could enjoy the scriptures during our study. I am so grateful to have such a faithful little example in our home. I just had to put it on the blog for posterity sake.

Oh, and these few pictures are from her baptism photo shoot. I just couldn't help but put them in. She looks too darn cute :)

Kellen's prayer....

Today after school Kellen really wanted to watch another movie. As I have been working a little from home he has been able to watch a few more movies lately. Anyway, Kellen was bugging me to watch another movie. I kept telling him no for several reasons 1) Katie had to do homework and could not be distracted. 2) He already watched three short veggie tale movies that day. 3) No!

Here is how the conversation went after the 16th time I said no:

Me: Kellen you are not allowed to ask me about watching a movie anymore!

Kellen: Ok, fine. Mom and Katie please fold your arms. I am going to say a prayer.

Me: (silently in my head) Why?

Kellen: (He started to pray) Heavenly Father, please bless that I can watch a movie and thank you for my pirate guys.

Me: Amen. Thanks Kellen for your prayer. However, it is not going to work. Would you please go play with pirate guys that you just thanked Heavenly Father for. Oh, and the movie thing is still a no!

Kellen: (ran outside cause he was mad) I don't want to play with pirate guys, I want to watch a movie. (The complaining got softer as he was running away from me)

I was just impressed that he would start praying hoping that Heavenly Father would answer his prayer. I think he knew that in the end he would not win this battle even with a very cute prayer.

Law's Cabin 2011

This year we spent some time at our friend's cabin with my family. We had a blast. Here are just a few pictures of all the highlights.

Grandpa/Grandma's Fishing hole
Okay first of all this is usually called Grandpa's fishing hole but since my mom did everything I also included her name as well. We each "fished" for our favorite candy and then other little prizes ex: mascara and a face mask (girls) and chapstick (boys).

Okay, this is a gorgeous face, right?! I have no idea why I look this distraught. For posterity sake I put it on the blog, not because I thought it was beautiful in any way!

Scott, Brigham (Scott's friend) and Katie fishing.

Okay, I did not get a picture of Mark going on the zip line. Instead I thought this picture would be a nice addition to our blog. Good thing Mark doesn't read the blog!

Scott
Aunt Di doing cool tricks on the zip line.

There goes Tom. He looks like he's walking in mid air. Tricky!

Kellen scares me because he is really daring on the zip line. It doesn't bother him that below him are sharp rocks that would hurt if he were to fall. This picture is a tame example of how he would go on the zip line.

Getting ready! I made Tom sit up there when Katie and Kellen went on the zip line. They both were so daring that they freaked me out.

There goes sister Katie.

Oh that's right, I went too. This is an after shot cause Tom didn't get it in time.

Katie is showing how this costume is supposed to be used. Oh, and by the way, this costume came from a dress up bin at the cabin....not from us.

This is how Katie and Kellen thought you were supposed to wear it. Awesome!

That weekend we went to church in Heber. For some crazy reason Katie's clothes were left at home. Oops! I am to blame. Anyway, we did not have any other clothes that would work. So, I went to the costume bin and found this lovely cape. And turned it into this....
Ta-da! A skirt! Katie pretty much hated it. I am sure you cannot tell by the picture ;) I thought it was super cute and it worked just fine. After church we unpinned it and put it back in the bin. Isn't improvising super?!

The cabin is not the cabin unless there is a fire, marshmellows, hershey's chocolate and gram crackers involved. Oh, and behind the scenes Tom was playing his new guitar. It was an awesome night.

Grandpa taking a turn at the guitar. Katie and kellen scarfing their yummy smores.

We were in charge of making dinner one night. We made homemade breadsticks, salad, baked chicken and potatoes. It was so yummy!!!!

Katie and Kellen posing in their fort.

We had a super time! Until next year!!!!!!!!

How Katie and Kellen get around...

Katie and Kellen would love to be taken to the dinner table like this every night. Tom went to their rooms and picked them up to take them to the table. Pretty cute but painful! Tom had to crawl on hands and knees on tile the entire time. Ouch!

First Day of School

This year Katie started 3rd grade. I am not sure who told her she could grow up, but she did it anyway. She is extremely smart and super funny. She has many friends and loves to go to school!

This picture just made me laugh. It must have been really bright because both Katie and Kellen are shutting their eyes. It just looks silly.

Kellen looks sad that Katie is leaving him.

Here is my beautiful, sassy, fun, loving, wonderful Katie, all ready for third grade!
