Meet your brother

Before Katie and Kellen went home with Grandma Everett the night he was born, they got to meet him in the nursery. They were the first people to see him. They got to hold him for a longer period of time the next day after school. Katie was so sweet when she saw him for the first time.

Kason looks so comfortable in her arms.

Kellen was so happy to have a little brother! He asked for a brother for Christmas. He got what he wished for. We reminded him that he would not be getting another sibling for Christmas next year.

So happy!

This is a super blurry picture. Sadly, this is one of the better ones. My camera is temperamental at times. I was so happy to have my three little people all with me. I just felt grateful!

It took a while for the CNA to give Kason his first bath. When she did she combed his hair so cute. He looked like an old man. His part was way over to the side. He looked so precious!

Pics right after the birth!

Little Kason was letting us all know that he had arrived.

Tom was taking our picture. I was blinking!

Tom cutting the umbilical cord.

Tom looked so lovely in his scrubs.

You can see it says 8lb11oz on the scale. What a big fellow!

The proud papa!!!!

I am not sure what I was saying in this picture. I think I was talking to the nurse.

Look at that red plump skin.

He looks so chunky here!

Not happy. I think he was cold!

Grandma Lyle with Kason.

Some pics from Aunt Diana

We had some cheerleaders waiting in the waiting room! Kason had a lot of people waiting his arrival.

The illustrious Di and Grandpa Lyle.

Little Kason was not super happy at this point. I am not sure why. Perhaps it was because he was chili. Who knows. Either way, I look tired!!!

The very, very proud papa. Tom was such a trooper throughout the whole day. I am very blessed to have the husband I do. He is the best and will do anything to make us happy.

Grandma Lyle!

Uncle Jake, Uncle Scott and Grandma.

Kason meeting Aunt Erica and Uncle Jake.

Auntie DiDi. Look at all that hair! Before Kason got his first bath, his hair looked really curly. When I had an ultrasound during my last trimester that ultrasound tech showed me some hair waving around. I had no idea he had that much hair!

Two very tired parents!

My precious little poopsie!

After my surgery, I wore this lovely brace to help my stomach feel better. It really did. I looked like I was wearing a Komono.

Here is the board with Kason's information.

Aunt Di came to visit.

Grandma came everyday for snuggles.

Kason was not too happy about being woken up for his vitals. Look at his thick hair!

I look tired but I love snuggling with my man.

My baby.

Look at those cute little cheeks! He is so handsome! He looks just like his daddy!!!

Delivery night

As I mentioned in my last post, there was a huge storm the night I drove home from work. My mother-in-law had just arrived from St. George to be with us for the birth of the baby. It was pouring rain! I really wanted to have the baby that night because I was sick of being pregnant but I really had not had any contractions, except for one the week before, to indicate that I was in labor. Well, at about 11:30 on Monday night, August 30, I had a couple contractions. They were very, very small. Oh, we were looking all over the internet on how to induce labor. We were pressing pressure points on my feet and hands to induce it....nothing! All of the sudden at 11:30 my water broke. The baby was coming! I was so excited. I was also scheduled to work the next day and I could not bear going in....yay! Kason knew that I did not feel like working so he broke his water bag. Well done son, well done.

When we got to the hospital the nurse was skeptical at best as to whether my water broke. She said it was crazy and that everyone was coming in that night. I know well enough that stormy weather brings all sorts of people into the hospital. I am not sure why, but it's true! Anyway, a short test later proved that indeed my water broke and I was admitted. I was checked and my body was not progressing as it should to have the baby anytime soon. Sadly, this is the story of my life. The doctor suggested that I be given a gel that helps the body with labor. As soon as I was checked into my room, I was given the medication. Oops, it worked a little too well! My body was progressing too fast for the baby. My little man's heart rate dropped! All the sudden I heard, "get on your hands and knees". I was huge and pregnant. I was not moving fast enough for them. It scared me to have a few nurses run into the room and shove an oxygen mask onto my face and asking me to move quick! They then stopped the medication. Things went a little more smoothly after that...not for long.

My body never progresses on it's own. Why, I am not sure. A few hours later I was given an epidural. It is procedure to give a 1 Liter bolus before an epidural is given to avoid hypotension. My blood pressure is normally low though so after the epidural, my blood pressure tanked. The baby was not getting enough oxygen. I was given a shot to helped constrict the vessels to bring up my blood pressure. It also makes your heart rate faster. My heart rate was still in normal limits but little Kason's heart rate was now way too fast. Because of this, I was not given as much medication to help the progression of labor. Good times!

After Kason's heart rate was normalized, my nurse tried slowly to increase labor. I was still on oxygen because Kason needed it. My body not progressing as normal. Oh, did I mention, Kason was now posterior "sunny side up". He was not going to come easily. Also, I was now in labor for 18 hours. I was exhausted and scared. Things were not looking good.

The doctor came in to check things out and said that at this point my body was not laboring as it needed to and a c-section was now in order. I started balling! I was just so tired that I could not help crying. I just wanted my sweet little man to be safe. If it meant c-section, so be it. They prepped me pretty quickly for surgery. I was given so much medication that I started shaking on the operating table. They told me that I would feel a great deal of tugging. Funny enough, I only felt a little. All of the sudden I heard a sweet little cry. My precious little man was born. A felt such relief. He was born and thank goodness, he was safe. Come to find out, the umbilical cord was wrapped around his foot making it difficult for him to progress in the birth canal. It kept pulling him back. His little head was bent and he was having a hard time moving it. Also, the cord was wrapped around his neck. I really feel that the fact that my body was not progressing was a miracle. Heavenly Father was watching over his little one. He was safe because we delivered c-section. The outcome would have been different had he been delivered normally. My baby was safe.

My sweet baby Kason was born at 7:07pm on September 1, 2015. He weighed 8 pounds, 11 ounces, 21 inches long. He came out with a lot of hair!!! He was such a cute, sweet baby. Poor thing did not have a name for a day. We could not agree. Tom wanted Quincey or Schuyler. The kids and I wanted Kason.....we won!

That night after surgery, I was in the recovery room waiting for Kason to join me after his shots. I was shaking almost uncontrollably. My body always does that after trauma. I think it also has something to do with the medication. As soon as they brought Kason, they laid him on my tummy. I felt warm and happy. My shaking stopped. We were just starring at one another. I did not even notice that I had relaxed. The nurse sweetly said that he helped calm me. His little heavenly presence helps calm us all in our family. I could not imagine our family without him.

Funny story: Tom asked my dad to come a little from work to give me a blessing. This was about 4pm that day. My dad came and poured a ton of oil on my head. For the rest of the day and the next, I had a really oily head. Turkey! The nurse, who was LDS, tried to use dry shampoo to get rid of it but it did not work. P.S. Tami was the delivery nurse. She was awesome! I have always felt that Heavenly Father always gives us just the right nurses during my deliveries because they are tricky. Tami was no exception. She was awesome. I am so grateful for her.

Our sweet miracle, Kason Ellis Everett.

Life is interesting to say the least. At times I think I have things figured out and then, BAM!, I am reminded that God is in control. I was working nights when I found out that I was pregnant. Let me back up-I thought I was just really tired from working all night and then trying to live a normal family life. For me, working nights was a nightmare! Two days after Christmas I thought that maybe my tiredness was from something entirely different. I took a pregnancy test. Low and behold, the test was positive. I was shocked to say the least. In 2011, we lost a sweet little baby when I was 11 weeks along. It was a hard experience but looking back on it I see that Heavenly Father played a vital role in mending our broken hearts. I will always be grateful for the sweet feeling of peace I had the day I miscarried. After that time, I went to nursing school and we did not see any more children in our future. Again, life is funny.

The minute I found out I was pregnant, I started to cry, a lot! I was not sure how this was going to work. Really, Kellen was going to be eight, almost nine, when this little person was born. We were starting all over again. This little person would be the family caboose!

Working nights during my first trimester was very hard. I was very, very tired and I felt sick most of the time. If I did not eat, I would get really sick. Because we lost our last one shortly before my first trimester was over, we did not say a thing to anyone. My family didn't even know. We went on the cruise with everyone and I did not say a thing. Tom wanted to shout our joyous news from the rooftop. I just didn't have the heart to tell anyone until I knew that this pregnancy would last past the first trimester. I could not go through the pain of having to tell people that I miscarried again. It did not seem real until I saw this little peanut displayed on the ultrasound. My little man was tiny and yet we were soooo excited for him to come.

Funny thing, this picture was on my phone because I sent Tom a picture. We still had not told anyone! Katie came across the picture. I told her the picture was someone else's picture. Then one day I was on the phone with Tom. He was on speaker phone. I told him that people were listening but he did not hear me. Kellen was in the room when Tom said, "Have you told Jen (my friend) that you are pregnant yet?" My answer, "No, but you just told the kids". At that point, Kellen was running to tell Katie. I wanted to tell them in a cute way....this was not the planned "cute way" but it was fun nonetheless. Katie said she saw the picture on my phone and already had a feeling that I was pregnant. She just did not say anything yet.

How we told my family: We were building the house at the time of my pregnancy. We wanted my family to come see the progress. We put signs on the doors to each room. Ex: "Katie's room". On the door that was suppose to be Tom's office we put "Tom's office (crossed out) Baby's room". We did not know the gender at the time. Everyone was very excited!

At 20 weeks we were able to get an ultrasound to see the gender. The woman doing the ultrasound had a German accent and was not super friendly. She looked at all the vital organs first. As I was watching the ultrasound I could see the gender. I knew it was boy! Then the ultrasound tech, who corrected me and told me we had not seen the gender yet (we so did!), finally said we were having a boy. Why she was a little mean about it I don't know. Shellie just happened to be in town that week for a visit. She was kind enough to make cupcakes to help reveal the gender. My parents (at that time) were going to have five grandsons and four granddaughters. Life was good.

This pregnancy was not without it's "fun" times. As with any pregnancy, each mother gets to take the dreaded glucose test. I failed the first hour test. Then I had to take the three hour glucose test....I barely failed that as well. I had gestational diabetes. Super fun! I got to go to a class to remind me all about my new diet (hated it) and my four-times-a-day sugar check. Ugh! All I wanted was a donut. Instead I ate a lot of protein, veggies and sugar free anything sweet. I was so glad when Kason arrived so I could eat anything I wanted!

I also worked my entire pregnancy. This was a little hard. I loved having to put "sockies" on for patients who watched me try to bend down. I also got to help a 380 pound woman ambulate after surgery. That should be illegal! Anyway, my coworkers were super helpful and kept me going.

The day before Kason was born I worked a 12 hour shift. I then drove home through one of the worst storms of the year. Even the highway patrol was stuck in water. It was that wet. My knuckles were white the whole drive home because I was nervous something would happen and I would go into labor on the side of the road. Luckily, that did not happen.

First Day of School 2015

I cannot believe it but Katie is in junior high this year and Kellen is in 3rd grade. It is amazing how fast time flies when you are having fun! I love, love my little people! Katie was nervous to attend junior high at first. She thought she would not be able to find her classes. Turns out she is a pro and is having a lot of fun in her classes.

When we went to see Kellen's classroom, he noticed that he was going to sit right across from his crush, Aspen. He was super excited!!! Too bad they moved seats shortly after. Oh well, he still got to sit by her for a short time.

Another funny story: Kellen found a superman shift at Target right before school started. He really wanted it but could not find the right size. I told him that he would have to wear something else. Then Aunt Stephanie brought some hand-me-down clothes. Low and behold, there was a superman shirt!!! Miracle!!! Kellen got to wear his favorite shirt after all. He was such a happy camper. Thanks Aunt Stephanie for saving the day!

Katie and Girls' camp, Kellen's business venture and surprise!

This year Katie got to go to two girls camps. She went with our old and new ward. This is a picture of her with Elliot Ward. She loved it! Her little testimony grew ten fold after attending. I am so grateful that she had fun and got to go twice. Funny thing is, she went with Elliot ward and a week later she went with Highland Groves.

This summer Kellen was determined to earn money to buy his own iPad. His mean mom and dad refused to buy one for him. He decided to poop-scoop for anyone who wanted it. My mom took him up on his offer. He earned $4 to poop scoop and spray off the back porch. Grandpa and Grandma Lyle have chickens that really mess up the porch. Kellen earned some pretty good money and was able to purchase his ipad with his business money and money from past birthdays.

When Katie was at girls camp Kellen and decided to paint Katie's room. She really wanted a "chevron" room. We painted the wall white before painting on the turquoise chevron stripes. Kellen was so helpful! It turned  out beautiful. Tom put the chevron design into CAD so we could get the measurements perfect. When Katie came home she was so surprised. It was fun for us to serve her since she is constantly helping our family! We love you, Katie.
