Mother's Day

This Mother's Day was fantastic! Tom and my two "little friends", Katie and Kellen, made some yummy breakfast. They even let me sleep until 8:30am. It was amazing! They made blueberry muffins, turkey bacon (my favorite), strawberries, and homemade hash browns (another favorite!). Then Katie and Kellen gave me some beautiful pictures, puzzles, and candy. Luckily, church starts at 12:30pm and we were able to be super lazy. Love it!

Chuch: Well, this week was interesting at church. For the past while I have been playing the piano for primary. I love it! Of course, the kids sing a song for their mothers and I got to accompany them. Funny thing, I got a new calling this week and was sustained on Mother's Day. What is the calling you ask????.....Wait for it.....just kidding!.....Primary President!! Woo-hoo! I didn't think I would announce it but since this is my journal, of course I announced it here. Anyway, here is what happened....Last week we received a phone call from the bishopric asking how long we plan to stay in the ward. They called Tom so I thought that he was the one getting a new calling. He is currently working with the young men right now. Anyway, the Bishop came over to our house Sunday night and asked to speak with Tom alone. I assumed he was getting a new calling. Nope! The Bishop came in, sat down again, looked at me, "Sister Everett, we would like to call you to be the new Primary President. "Me?" (slight laugh). "Wow!" I had nothing to say, I was left speechless, which is hard to do! I told the Bishop that I would be happy to do it and this calling will teach me how to delegate like no other! Funny thing though, when the adversary doesn't want you to do something, he makes it known! I had the craziest week. I was physically sick, I was not only humbled by the calling but was feeling like I couldn't do it and I wasn't worth anything. Simply said, I felt like poo. It was awful. I really thought that when they called me name to sustain me in this new calling that the congregation would laugh. Again, it was awful! I am so grateful that my husband put up with me and he gave me a wonderful blessing that made me feel a lot better about accepting the calling and ignoring the adversary.  After Sacrament meeting in church, a lot of wonderful people came up to me and were to so reassuring and loving. Also, my counselors are AMAZING! I hit the the jackpot when it comes to counselors! I am so grateful to be serving with these wonderful women. So, there we go. Our little family is going to be so blessed from this calling and I cannot wait to serve the children in our ward.

After church, we went to my parents house where Tom, my dad, Scott, and Jake prepared dinner. I cannot forget to mention that Diana brought some yummy cheesecake for dessert. Well done, Di! They made the best chicken, salad and fruit slushies for dinner.

All-in-all, life is good! Mother's Day was awesome. I cannot forget to mention my mom. If someone were to ask me to name one thing that my mom taught me (of course I can name several things) BUT if I had to name only one, it would that my mom taught me how to serve. (Mom, you are allowed to cry while you read this). My mom quietly serves many, many people. Over the years I have watched her make dinners for people that are sick, I have seen her sit and listen to people and offer them support during their hard times, she has watched my children more than I count during work, school, etc. She is quit possibly the best example of service that I have seen. Thank you mom for showing us how to serve our fellow men! For this I will be eternally grateful!

Stand Up Club

Today my daughter made me extremely proud to be her mom. I was doing her hair in the bathroom and she told me she is apart of the Stand Up Club. Immediately I thought she was joining a club that spontaneously stood up for one reason or another. I was totally wrong! She told me that she and a couple other girls decided to stand up for other kids with special needs in their class. If someone tries to make fun of the girls with special needs Katie and her friends stand up for them. I about cried! She always tries to do what is right and is extremely kind to others. She is a wonderful example to our family of loving everyone and standing up for the right!! Good job, Katie!

Before and After

I decided to repaint one of our pieces of furniture. Before it was all black. I just really wanted to give our house a new pop of color.

BEFORE:

AFTER:
I love it!!!!! The color is super fun and it looks like a whole piece of furniture. I also used glaze for the first time. Glaze is my new best friend. Love it!

Our Easter Wreath

I saw a super cute wreath on pintrest. Katie and Kellen were such good helpers!

Here is the almost finished product. Oh, and I did not realize that spray painting plastic eggs would be so difficult. Who knew?!

Katie + Kellen = Best Friends!

Tonight when Kellen was injured on his cheek, Katie was nearby to help out her little brother.

Katie and Kellen have some super best friends, Reese and Reaghan. They always play together. Reese and Reaghan came over for a late night and they built a fort and watched "UP".

I told the kids that when I was little we used to make beds in the tub and sleep in it. They loved that idea! Who wouldn't?! They set up a little bed and wanted to be sure to take a lot of pictures.

Foot wars!

Katie and Kellen slept in a box and ate breakfast together. It doesn't look comfortable to me but they loved it. I love that my little Katie and Kellen are such good friends. They take such good care of each other. I love it!

Kellen Lately

Kellen is my little friend that hangs out with me during the day when I am not at work. He is going to kindergarten next year. Luckily, I will have stuff to do while he is gone. Otherwise I would miss my little friend. He and I like to watch Phineas and Ferb together mid morning with our jammies on. Sounds kinda nice doesn't it?

Lately, Kellen has been riding his bike!!! He learned in one day how to ride his bike. We are still working on how to use the brakes. As you can see in the picture below, his forehead met the tire after falling. He was so brave and got right back on. Yay, Kellen!

Today Kellen's face and the end of a palm frond met for a minute second. During that second, the frond cut Kellen's face. He was super lucky that the frond did not actually hurt his eye.

We recently had to pick some weeds in the backyard. Here is Kellen's weed picking outfit. Notice the lovely bath robe and hat. He wore that outfit almost the entire time we were working. Kinda funny!

Uncle Scotty joined us too. He is an awesome helper.

Did I mention that Kellen puts on interesting outfits to pick weeds....here is another one.

He refused to wear showes and had one sock on top of his jeans. Oh, you like how his fly is unzipped?. Also, it wasn't that cold outside.
One last picture of Kellen. We cut open a watermelon. Kellen thought it made a great hat.

Katie Lately

It has been a while since I have posted anything about the kids with pictures. I am going to start with Katie and what she has been doing lately.
Katie remains busy with school and up until just last week she was involved in Mrs. Cortez's Math Club. She and a few other students stayed after school two days a week to get a little extra math help. Turns out the principal really thought math club kids were cool so he brought pizza just for them.

Katie loves to wear different hair styles to church. Luckily for her, she a mom who loves to do fun things with hair. Here a couple of styles she has worn lately.

Katie also loves to watch Cake Boss when it's on Netflix. One night she decided to make a beautiful cake. She wanted to mold things out of rice crispy treats to put on top of the cake. If you watch the show, you see that Buddy molds a lot of things from rice cereal treats.

Kellen is molding something out of cereal treats. No cake is truly complete without assistance from Kellen.

Katie is molding something....truth be told, I have no idea (cannot remember) what she is molding.

Here is the finished product. There are all sorts of things on this cake. You will notice a star on the left hand side, a train above the star and the rest I cannot remember. Sorry kids!

Katie holding her masterpiece! This cake was red velvet with blue frosting. She picked out all the ingredients herself and made a very lovely cake that tasted super yummy!

It would not be Saturday morning if Katie was not outside trying to climb the tree, making a fort, or making an obstacle course to tackle riding only riding bikes or skooters. Here she goes..... She built this ramp herself. She was very proud of it. Mean mom and dad made her take it down when it started to get dangerous.
